Seattle Pacific Seminary Theology 6950 Course Registration

Theology 6950 – The Teaching Ministry of the Church
Winter Quarter (January 3 - March 14) on Mondays from 3-5:35 PM | Dr. Katie Douglass
Students have the choice of taking the course in-person or online

Course Description: Ministry leaders play a critical role in forming the faith of those in their ministry. The formation of Christian identity takes place in both formal and informal teaching ministries of the church. Formal moments include baptism, the Lord’s Supper, Sunday school, confirmation, children’s messages, Bible studies, youth groups, retreats, and camps. Other informal, but still formative educational moments include the ways the community embodies its beliefs through serving the community, educating the public, and participating in local civic life. In this class, students will identify, evaluate, and create learning goals for the teaching ministry in their setting. Students will gain skills in culturally responsive teaching methods. Students will also grow in their understanding of human development which will help them create age-appropriate learning experiences for the entire lifecycle.

Note: The $95 fee is to take a course as a participant learner. Participant learners are expected to arrive prepared to engage fully in the courses they register for but will not receive transcript credit or grades for the work done in the course. If you would prefer to take these courses for credit (3 credits) at standard seminary tuition rate, please fill out the short application at this link and disregard the registration button below. You can contact Ashley Skinner-Creek, associate director of graduate programs at skinnera3@spu.edu for assistance filling out the form.
